- Lack of quality sleep;
- Lack of an adequate breakfast;
- Lack of time in the morning; and
- Lack of vitamin supplements.
If you can all remember my first 21-day goal was to Get More and Better Sleep. I made this my first goal because I realized that good sleep is the foundation of a good day. When I get adequate sleep, I eat healthier, my mood is better, and I am better able to relax myself when life stresses me out.
I had bad quality sleep two nights ago for the simple reason that I did not turn off all stimulation an hour before I wanted to fall asleep. For me, this means no TV or Internet after 9:30 - and when you are in the middle of an episode of Law & Order: SVU, you just GOTTA know whodunnit, right? I mean, you get emotionally involved in these things sometimes.
I didn't have an adequate breakfast or more time in the morning because I had overslept as a result of my poor quality sleep. Rushing out the door as to not be late for work, I forgot to take my vitamins, too.
All of this made for a day where I was hungrier, more tired, and more stressed than I should have been. When I lack sleep, I crave carby-fatty comfort foods. I've always known this about myself, but when I realized I was drooling at the prospect of a grilled cheese sandwich and chicken noodle soup, it hit me that I needed to get better sleep the next night.
So tonight begins a new 21-day cycle, of all the good sleep hygiene habits I developed previously. Let's see how it goes...
